Revisiting Tyson Foerster

Tyson Foerster always had a great shot. I’ve always felt that was his best asset, but he’s rounded out his game to be a good defensive player, and his skating is good. So, what were my initial thoughts on this player?

A big scorer who wreaks havoc in the offensive zone with a physical edge. (Back then, I did a Mock Draft and nailed this pick)

I nailed those elements, and he’s shown that when healthy. So what’s next in his game?

“I’ll keep working on skating. On hands. Everything overall. I think my shot is pretty good. Get in tight around the net and get it upstairs. Maybe work on beating guys one-on-one.”

In tight would help the Flyers’ power play. In four seasons, he has just 13 power-play goals. How is that possible? Well, one thing I talked about was getting his feet set before he took his shot on the power play. It took a bit to get all of that going, and goalies have time to set at that point. If he got close to the net on occasion on the power play and five-on-five, I agree with him. There are points to be had. I’m sure the team showed him the percentages.

I think he can be a 60-point player at his best. He should be able to get 30 goals. He was on that pace, probably more last year after returning from injury, but that was last year, and this year, he will start the season flat-footed but healthy.

Foerster is a top-six guy on any team because of his complete game. That’s what makes him one of the most valuable players on the team.
