I think Tynan Lawrence could prove to be a top-line center in the NHL. Most likely a terrific second-line center, but if he’s sitting behind Robert Thomas and Mason McTavish, that’s an if; then the Blues will be in good shape down the middle.
“I like to watch Nick Suzuki and Macklin Celebrini, both 200-foot players,” Lawrence stated.
Lawrence knew he could put up another monster year at Muskegon with the USHL, so when he got back from his injury, he was in a boot; he played in 13 games with 10 goals and seven assists, and then transferred to Boston University. It was a learning experience for him.
“It was a big step. I thought I was ready. Having that half year of experience against older guys only makes me want to come back next year, feel more comfortable with the style, and next year have a better start and kind of kick things off right.”
Did that hiccup in college, as a true freshman, affect him at the draft? I think so, but that is what makes this pick so good for the Blues. Lawrence can easily be the best center in this draft. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
Lawrence will be a point-per-game player next year in college. After that, he might sign with the Blues and then get at least a few NHL games and then who knows?
I think Lawrence will be a 60-75 point player who has a strong two-way game and he’s just over six-feet and 183 pounds, those are good measurables. He doesn’t give up an inch on the ice and his skating is terrific. He is an excellent passer and his release on his shot is pro caliber already. He’s a team leader too.
This should be a big year for the pivot.
