Gunnar Conboy is a 6-4, 200 pound, 2027 draft eligible center who plays for the Green Bay Gamblers. This guy has a complete game, some pushback, and can take a hit and he will come back for more.
“I thought it could obviously be better,” he remarked.
His effort wasn’t the problem. He was trying things out on the ice, he went to the net and this was after he had a goal. Conboy was trying to lead his team and spark a comeback.
“Yeah, for sure. I obviously couldn’t get anything going on the 1st or the 2nd, and then started driving pucks to the net, and good things happen when you take pucks to the net.”
He had three points in five games at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Conboy has improved since the Hlinka. He’s put on four pounds and has grown an inch. That is noticeable and he’s figured out how to incorporate that in his game.
His one-timer is more forceful. His penalty killing is superb.
“I think I’ve always kind of been that way. I justI don’t like killing something that I just think comes to me. Whether it’s blocking shots, having a good sticks in the middle, getting pucks 200 feet, I think it’s just something that is really good to have in my game.”
He was on the right side of face-offs too.
“Me and my buddy Oliver McKinney like to do it a lot after practice. It’s just something I wasn’t very good at last year,” Conboy said honestly.
He was aware of the scouts and wants to have a big year in his draft year but that’s not the only career-goal.
My goal for the season is to obviously have a great year and hopefully get drafted in the NHL, but also to win a Clark Cup with our team,” said Conboy. “That’s my focus. That’s my biggest focus for the season is winning with this team.”
I know Conboy has first-round talent. Do I think he can go higher? I think there’s a good chance of that but let’s see more this season.
