Frondell vs. Desnoyers – Who Should the Flyers Draft?

I spoke to a scout the other day who gave me a compelling argument regarding this subject. There is a chance that Anton Frondell and Caleb Desnoyers will be there at six, and if they are, who would this scout select?

“I think it’s a coin flip,” the scout stated.  “I would lean more towards Frondell because I think the two, he’s more proven at a higher level.”

There’s more to this argument. It’s not that cut and dry.

“I’ll be honest, I still worry about the Quebec League,” the scout stated. “I try not to be that guy, but, you know, one guy’s been able to score against men, and he’s done it.

“I mean, Caleb’s had a really good international track record, too. I think that would be a really, really hard decision.”

So far, I am in the court of this scout but there’s another important point to consider.

“But I lean towards Frondell, based on, I think there’s an X factor, potential with his shooting,” the scout added. “But then I also think Caleb’s the more creative setup guy.”

This scout had one more thought about the debate:

“I would take Frondell, but that’d be really, I mean, that’s I think that’s when you know you have them slotted perfectly because it’s like, you could bang your head against a wall, decide which one you want.”

The scout added he wouldn’t take Brady Martin in this slot. It was an emphatic “no”. Also, he would consider Justin Carbonneau with the Avs pick.

  1. The scout offers very little of a scouting report on Frondell or Desnoyers making him sound not like a scout. He talks about a Swede in the 2nd tier Swedish League (how many champion type players came out of Sweden) but doesn’t even talk about his playmaking ability which is what the Flyers are looking for.

    1. He was just talking about one versus the other. I have more that will be on Elite Prospects on the player himself. He is just 17. That’s important.

  2. […] I don’t like mock drafts and I rarely do them. I do get asked who I think a team will take and I’m always willing to give out some names. I am working on more draft pressure points like Frondell vs. Desnoyers. […]
