I just saw a report that Kevin Weekes said the San Jose Sharks might trade the rights to Sasha Chmelevski. The Sharks drafted him back in 2017. I remember watching him play for the Ottawa 67s and was impressed with him as a member of Team USA in the the 2019 World Junior Championship. He was a point-per-game player then.
Since then, he’s been putting up points in the KHL. I always liked his zone entries and stick and puck control and the fact that he could get his shot off without a lot of space.
Having watched some of his KHL footage, now a six-footer, he’s stronger, his edge work has improved. According to InStat, he is averaging over 18:44 a game. 52% shots on goal and 59% on face-offs. I think he can be a third line center.
I think the Sharks can get a nice return for him.
