Macklin Celebrini will be a #1 center in the NHL. He may start a bit lower, that’s up to the Sharks. I’ve often said that his two-way game is way ahead of the curve for his age group.
I haven’t seen a rookie this good at his 200-foot game since Sidney Crosby. He’s smart, he’s put on more muscle since the Sharks drafted him.
Suppose he was on a better team. I’d put his point totals around Sidney Crosby’s, but he had Mario Lemieux to help him and play on a line for 26 games until he retired. He had 102 points in 2005-06.
Celebrini could get 70 points. If he does that, he’ll be the leader for the Calder Award. So far, I see no reason why he can’t achieve that. He won’t get frustrated and his upbeat personality will help him get through a tough season on a bad team.
